We are still searching for the cause of autism. /
Flavored electronic cigarettes can result in greater cigarette smoking by our youth.
RISK OF AUTISM ASSOCIATED WITH HYPERBILIRUBINEMIA AND PHOTOTHERAPY
By Yvonne W. Wu, MD, MPH etc. .
Pediatrics, Vol. 138 Nu. 4, Oct. 2016:e20161813
We must thank these authors for dispelling another etiological factor in the causation of autism. It seems modern society is on a campaign to associate medical treatments, medications and conditions with the development of autism.
Quoting their conclusion:
“After adjustment for the effects of sociodemographic factors and birth weight, neither hyperbilirubinemia nor phototherapy was an independent risk factor for ASD.”
Please, let us remove neonatal jaundice and phototherapy as causations for autism. This allows the medical researchers to continue looking for the real cause without useless distractions. We can all agree, as soon as we find the cause a cure won’t be far behind.
FLAVORED ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE USE AND SMOKING AMONG YOUTH
By Hongying Dai, PhD, etc.
Pediatrics, Vol 138, Nu. 6, Dec. 2016:e29162513
The authors clearly showed the association of use of flavored e-cigarettes by youth to a higher risk of tobacco cigarette use.
We must discourage e-cigarette use in our adolescents because of this relationship.
