Child-proof caps for medications are not enough. Parents must keep all medications in safe storage./ There is little evidence to support the use of nutritional supplements for children with Autism.

SAFE STORAGE OF OPIOID PAIN RELIEVERS AMONG ADULTS LIVING IN HOUSEHOLDS WITH CHILDREN

By Eileen M. McDonald, MS. etc. .

Pediatrics, Vol 139, Nu 3, March 2017, pg. 52.

You would think that this article is a no brainer. But the truth is many parents are “no brainers” because they leave their pain medications in easy reach of children.

Safe storage is critical for all medications. They must be kept somewhere so that children cannot get to them.

Please be conscientious on this matter. Your children depend on you to do so.

Do not leave weapons, chemicals, poisons, medications etc in places that your children can reach. Careless parents lead to injured or dead children. That is a hard statement, but true.

NUTRITIONAL AND DIETARY INTERVENTIONS FOR AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

By NilaSathe, M.A., MLIS, etc.

Pediatrics, Vol 139, Nu 6, June 2017, pg 50

This is a great review article on a subject that seems controversial or at least much discussed. They found that there is little evidence to support the use of nutritional supplements or dietary therapies to improve the symptoms of Autistic Spectrum patients.

I realize parents will quote anecdotal reports of benefits. But my clinical experience supports these author’s conclusions. In my practice I never discourage a parent from trying a non-harmful supplement because I realize how desperate they are to help their child.

As I previously said, I have never seen significant improvement with these substances.
