There is certainly a great deal of talk these days about vaccinations. Some is founded on facts, while others come from unproven statements flying over the airwaves and social media. Unfortunately, a person can become an opinion source or influencer by having access to a P.C.

Let me bring you a peer reviewed reference on the Covid-19 vaccine. James W. Antoon M.D., PhD, MPH et al published an article in PEDIATRICS, the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The November 2022 issue “Covid-19 and Acute Neurologic Complications in Children”, nu. 5, pg. 47 shows that there are neurologic complications in children who contracted a Covid-19 infection.

They reviewed 15,137 cases of children hospitalized for Covid-19. It was found that 1060 (7%) developed neurologic complications.

These complications involved febrile seizures (3.9%), non-febrile seizures (2.3%) and, most importantly, encephalopathy in 2.2%. It was also noted that children with prior chronic neurologic conditions were associated with higher odds of these neurologic conditions.

Too many parents associate tragic outcomes of a Covid-19 infection with the aged.

Let’s realize that 7 out of 100 children who contracted Covid-19 have neuron system complications. 7 out of 100! More importantly, if it is your child, it becomes 100%.

Put aside undocumented ideas for the facts. From the history of mankind we can see vaccines have prevented millions of deaths and damaged children; polio, pertussis, diphtheria, varicella and rubeola just to mention a few diseases.

When I started my career in pediatrics we had no immunizations to prevent bacterial meningitis. Every winter the pediatric wards were filled with hemophilia and pneumococcal meningitis. Since the advent of vaccines for these infections they are rarely seen in the immunized children. Going further back in time, when I was a child polio was crippling young people by the thousands. The vaccine came and put an end to the problem.

Let us be informed parents; Informed with facts, not unsupported, undocumented social media thoughts.
