PEDIATRICS Vol. 117 #6 June 2006

This is an interesting study conducted in Ohio from 1995 to 2001. It involved 285 children with a mean age of 11.1 years. The study showed that wearing a helmet did not significantly protect the child from serious head and facial injuries.

Although these vehicles are not motorcycles they apparently subject the children who use them to potential serious injuries, involving head and face.

Maybe it is time to love our children enough to protect them from machines that are dangerous for them. Parents must brace themselves for the retaliation of behavior and words that are unpleasant to hear and view. But, perhaps it is time to love our children enough to discipline them. Both are related!
