Reading through the paper is a hobby and restful activity for me out of the office. Of course like many of you, sometimes it seems ads dominate the volume of the paper rather than true content. However, recently I came across an ad/safety campaign sponsored by Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and Kohl’s Department Stores. The joint “partners in injury prevention” program has a catch-worthy slogan that all families can benefit from:
“COUNT TO 10 FOR CHILD SAFETY”.
The ad then lists ten areas of child safety that Children’s Hospital and Kohl’s are targeting for community education and fund raising. Children’s Hospital is providing education pamphlets on each topic at an easily accessible and printable link: www.chla.org/kohls. On the right hand side of the page each of the following ten safety topics has its own brochure.
Kohl’s charitable program called “Kohl’s Cares for Kids” sells items in its stores under this moniker. One hundred percent of the profits goes toward nationwide childhood education and health initiatives. The store also offers a variety of volunteer and fundraising opportunities for adults, kids, and schools.
I found the tips easy to digest and think they provide a good tool for family discussion. As I often hear in the office, sometimes information that comes from somewhere other than a parent just seems to go over better with kids…even if it’s the same stuff! Take a look and see for yourself. It’s a good way for families to start a healthy and safe spring and summer season!
