COMMENTS REGARDING MEASLES OUTBREAK IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

It is said, “One always has to pay the piper”. In this case, not only people who elected not to immunize their children and offspring but parents of young infants and children less than one year old are also “paying the piper”. The decision not to immunize effects those involved in the decision but also the population in general. It is not fair to all the children that they should suffer from the imprudent decisions of a few. Yet, this minority of parents risk the health of friends and neighbors. It is time to wake up and understand the implications of the decisions we make. If I decide to drink and drive and run over a baby in a stroller, the very people that put this infant at risk by irresponsible behavior would be the first to chastise me. The very parents that do not protect their children with immunizations seem to be the loudest advocating protection for some endangered animal species. That energy should be used in protecting their own children first. In the economy of life, who is most important, an infant human or a Sacramento river smelt? It’s time to wake up and be responsible before a medical catastrophe occurs. Let the outbreak be a warning to the future. Please immunize. Please protect your children and your neighbor’s offspring.
