What’s up, doc?
Addressing effect E-cigarettes have on fetus. Risk to infants with maternal vaccinations. Concern that pandemic influenza vaccination is associated with epilepsy.
E-CIGARETTES: EFFECTS ON THE FETUS
Nan Jiang, PhD, et al..
Pediatrics in Review, March 2018, page 156
The bottom line in this article is the statement that appears in the 1st paragraph: “The safety of e-cigarettes to the mother and fetus is largely unknown…” Nevertheless, nicotine levels may be far more than cigarettes.
They point out that neurotoxicity of nicotine to the fetal nervous system is well described. Whether the nicotine comes from tobacco cigarettes or e-cigarettes is irrelevant.
The most useful statement in the article appears in the third to last paragraph. It wisely indicates that prudence dictates the pregnant women who must use e-cigarettes should use nicotine free e-cigarettes. That only makes sense if we value fetal health.
INFANT HASPITALIZATIONS AND MORTALITY AFTER MATERNAL VACCINATION
Lakshmi Sukumaran, M.D. MPH, et al.
PEDIATRICS Vol 141, Nu 3, March 2018, Article 45
The authors found no association between vaccination during pregnancy and risk of infant hospitalization or death in the first 6 months of life. These findings support the safety of current recommendations for influenza and Tdap vaccination during pregnancy.
Once again vaccinations prevent infant infections without deleterious effects.
EPILEPSY IN CHILDREN AFTER PANDEMIC INFLUENZA VACCINATION
Siri E. Haberg, M.D. PhD., et al,
PEDIATRICS, Vol 141 Nu. 3, March 2018, Article 41
The conclusion says it all: “Pandemic influenza vaccination was not associated with increased risk of epilepsy. Concerns about pandemic vaccination causing epilepsy in children seem to be unwarranted.”
After these three articles I must ask the anti-immunization zealots to become informed parents, please.
