We all know e-cigarettes are safer than regular tobacco use. But can it lead to marijuana use? //How harmful is it if I am a regular marijuana user and am breast feeding my baby?

Janet Audrain-McGovern, PhD, et al..

PEDIATRICS Vol. 142, No 3, Sept. 2018, pg. 19

MARIJUANA USE BY BREASTFEEDING MOTHERS AND CANNABINOIDCONCENTRATIONS IN BREAST MILK

Kerri A. Bertrand, MPH, et al.

PEDIATRICS Vol 142, No. 3, Sept. 2018, pg. 20

These authors show that there is cannabinoid measureable in breast milk for up to six days after maternal use. The Academy of Pediatrics advises no marijuana use during pregnancy or while breast feeding.

It is felt that cannabinoids accumulate in fat rich organs and therefore may accumulate in the brain. It has been shown by Tortoriello, et al that THC can damage normal nerve cell components in the developing human brain.

It is true that all the data is not in yet on this subject. Let’s use common sense and avoid those things that might damage normal brain development. Once a human brain is damaged we cannot turn the clock back and reverse that which we did that was deleterious. Please be an informed parent and a concerned parent. Protect your child’s most valuable computer—his or her brain.

You would not knowingly do something that would damage your P.C or Apple device. Use the same care in protecting your child’s brain.
